Visit Virgin Gorda - BVI

Located 18 miles from St Thomas, at the easternmost point of the Sir Francis Drake channel, lies Virgin Gorda. Spanish for "Fat Virgin"- the island is said to look like a fat woman laying on her side- Virgin Gorda is the third largest British Virgin Island (behind Tortola and Anegada), and the second most populated. This tranquil island offers guests excellent snorkeling, beautiful beaches, challenging hiking, and even two luxury resorts (Little Dix Bay and the Bitter End Yacht Club).

If you're visiting Virgin Gorda for the day from the USVI, the Baths are a must-see. This impressive collection of massive boulders at the shore's edge attract thousands of tourist annually who are eager to explore the crystal clear pools in the natural grottos. Since the Baths can be accessed either by road (only a short drive from Virgin Gorda's main town of Spanish Town) or by boat (swim into Spring Bay, explore the Baths, end up on Devil's Bay) this is a very popular attraction, so it's important to beat the crowds and get there early.

For visitors who have already been to the Baths, a day trip to the Bitter End Yacht Club is great option. Located in the North Sound of Virgin Gorda, not far from Richard Branson's Necker Island and Mosquito Island, BEYC is a complete luxury resort that caters to both mariners and day trippers. Rent water sports equipment, lounge on one of the resort's three beaches, or have a bite to eat at one of the numerous restaurants. Experiencing the Bitter End Yacht Club and neighboring Saba Rock are well worth the day trip to Virgin Gorda.

For those looking for a little more adventure and physical activity, Virgin Gorda has you covered. Lace up your hiking shoes and choose your trek. Little Fort National Park is a challenging, rocky hike to historic ruins just outside of Spanish Town. Or climb to the top of Gorda Peak, elevation 1,370 feet, the highest peak on Virgin Gorda for views that won't disappoint.
