Visit Bomba's Shack on Tortola
While many places the world over host Full Moon Parties, none throw a party quite like the infamous Full Moon Parties at Bomba's Shack on Tortola's northwest shore. What began in the late 80s as a few friends celebrating the beauty of the tropics under a full moon, has today grown to attract hundreds of revelers seeking an eventful evening of friends, fun, drinks, and authentic reggae. Starting around 9pm and lasting until dawn, these Full Moon parties are legendary for their "anything goes" attitude. While revelers can gulp down island favorites like margaritas, Painkillers, and Bushwackers, the more adventurous can even try the hallucinogenic mushroom tea- which are legal in the BVI. The later this party goes, the wilder it can get, so be ready!
In the day time, Bomba's shack offers visitors a great beachfront view of neighboring Jost Van Dyke that is so picturesque you could almost forget the raucous parties the shack at your back plays host to. The keyword here, is almost. This beach bar lives up to the name "shack," and has the hodge-podge construction to prove it. Under nearly continuous expansion since inception in 1976, Bomba's Shack is collection of donated and found materials, like driftwood, plywood, and corrugated tin. Visitors can leave their mark too, by graffiting their names anywhere there's a blank spot, tacking up a license plate or other momento, or even leaving something more personal- underwear- like dozens of others have done in the past 30 years.
