Visit the Bitter End & Saba Rock
Famous among sailors the world over, the Bitter End Yacht Club is the ultimate in sailing luxury. Located in the pristine North Sound of Virgin Gorda, the Bitter End Yacht Club, or BEYC, plays host to several competitive sailboat races and regattas annually. And while the on water competition is the draw for visitors during race weeks, the resort itself offers plenty of action to keep even the most energetic vacationer engaged.
When visiting or staying at the famed resort, guests can snorkel or scuba dive, test their strength kiteboarding, try to catch dinner while fishing, windsurf across the azure waters of the North Sound, or learn to sail on Hobie cats and a variety of monohulls. When you think you've mastered small boat sailing, join the weekly racing series and put your skills to the test in a real sailboat race!
All of this activity is sure to work up an appetite. Good thing Bitter End has several exciting options. In the Clubhouse, order a drink from the historic wooden bar where hundreds yacht club burgees (flags) from around the world hang from the rafters to evoke the feel of a storied racing club headquarters- which the Bitter End is. Be sure to check out the fading charts dating decades back and the mounted Marlin behind the bar. For dinner, reserve a table at Almond Walk's buffet, complete with an extensive collection of Caribbean and West Indian cuisine and steel pan music.
Or opt for adventure and take a dinghy over to neighboring Saba Rock. This tiny island oasis in the middle of the North Sound of Virgin Gorda offers guests accommodations, marina slips, water sports rentals, and a lively bar and restaurant. Sip a selection of local rums and enjoy a dinner of freshly caught fish or lobster from neighboring Anegada. But make sure you're present for the exciting nightly feeding of the tarpon- 3-4 foot long prehistoric looking fish (but don't worry, people aren't on the menu!)
